Illumination was founded in 2013 by drummer and guitarist Kirill Mussinski. Since then, the project has gone through several line-up and concept changes, evolving into today’s collaborative live/studio project.
For several years, Illumination performed as a local Berlin band, appearing at venues and festivals across the city. In 2016, the band released the EP 'Anotherclash Illumination'. Shortly after its release, the group went on pause, which eventually led to another line-up change.
The project was relaunched in 2018 with Kirill Mussinski and Lorenzo Pagano forming its core. The album 'Land of July' was recorded mainly by the two of them, while also featuring a number of guest musicians.
Musically, Illumination avoids being confined to one genre. The sound varies from track to track, driven by what feels inspiring at the moment.
'Land of July' was released in September 2020 and is available in all major platforms.
The band is now focused on recording their next album 'Size of the World', with a tentative release planned for the end of 2025. In parallel, Illumination is preparing a semi-acoustic EP, 'Less Wires', and a mostly instrumental LP, 'Space Meteorologist'.
